Samira Mahfuz continuously explores young South Asian female diaspora in Western societies and the construction of new identities/ethnicities via mediascapes for conceptual photography and academic research. She is currently an MFA candidate in the Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media, Design program at OCAD University. Mahfuz is also a University of Toronto graduate with an HBA Specialist in Digital Enterprise Management, Minor in Philosophy, and Diploma in Digital Communications from Sheridan College. She is the recipient of the Art Gallery Ontario Award and W.J. Blackhall Award for her photography.
S M M Y T R Y
SMMYTRY /ˈsimətrē/ is an ongoing side-project that combines Mahfuz's photographs with other mediums such as digital reconstruction, illustration, and paint. Topics surrounding female psychological states, empowerment, cultural identity exploration, and more, are visualized through abstract art. Portion of proceeds go towards women's charitable causes.
